A .JAM file written by a Spider Jam or JM4 Looper contains your recording and all its associated settings. It does not contain any backing tracks even though you might be able to hear them playing. A .JAM file can only be used by one of these devices.
Although you can save all your recordings to an SD card at once, as JAM files, WAV files can only be saved one at a time. Consequently, I have written a simple little application that converts .JAM files to .WAV files either individually or in batches.
All you have to do is drag your JAM file(s) onto the program window and it converts them instantly.
Download Jam2Wav for Windows computers
Download and unzip the correct file for you computer.
The Windows version now includes an installer program 'J2WSetUp.exe'. Run this installer and it will put Jam2Wav in your Start Menu and put an shortcut on your desktop.
Mac user will find a single apllication icon which should be dragged into the Applications folder. If you want, you can then drag an icon to your dock.
By default, the WAV files are saved to the same location as the JAM files but there is an option under the Preferences menu that makes a save dialog box open so that you can save them elsewhere.
Another option in Preferences just checks that when you save a file manually, that you retain the 8.3 character filename format required by the Spider Jam and JM4. This is switched on by default.
New in version 1.01. Added an option for batch saving where you are only asked for the save location for the first file - the rest go in the same place. Fixed the ability to drag and drop the WAV files into other Mac apps like GarageBand.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are playing along to an internal backing track, a recorded JAM file does not save this as audio, it only saves a reference to the internal recording. Subsequently, if you convert a JAM file to a WAV file with Jam2Wav, it will not have the backing track, only your recording. If you want to hear the backing track, you should use the SAVE REC MIX AS WAV TO CARD option under the SAVE menu. This mixes down all the tracks to a single mono WAV file.
